It’s another year and another Facilities Show, and the Vanti team will shortly be off to London for our biggest event yet. This year we’ve been able to let our imagination run wild as we’ve been acting as the Master Systems Integrator for the first ever Smart Buildings Expo – a replica state of the art smart office for show attendees to explore and interact with.
The Facilities Show is the biggest dedicated Facilities Management show in the world, with an annual attendance of over 12,000 experts and budding industry innovators. This year it will be taking place between the 18th-20th June at ExCeL London, showcasing Facilities Management solutions, Workplace Wellbeing and Smart Building excellence (that’s us!).
Global leaders in facilities innovation will all be heading to the ExCeL to set up shop for the week and show just what they’ve been up to over the last year, so we’re just as excited to go and have a browse as we are to head up the new Smart Building Expo experience. This major new addition to the show gives some of the leading workplace technology suppliers the chance to showcase the products, solutions, technologies and ideas shaping the growing smart buildings market.
The Smart Buildings Expo has been created in response to an increasing desire within the facilities management sector for a more dedicated focus on the opportunities – and challenges – of new smart building technology. More and more often, new offices and public buildings are being fitted with automated lifts, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting and heating, surveillance systems and access control. One of the biggest challenges with this comes in how to make this mass of technology usable in an intelligent way that supports people – our first thought whenever we embark on a new project.
The full-size 196m² (over 2100ft²) replica smart office will give us the opportunity to demonstrate our unique ability to bring together innovative technologies in a way that enables user-friendly processes via creative and thoughtful technology design. In the words of our CEO Mike Brooman, “a truly smart building should be based around creating an experience that supports all of its users, and we look forward to showing Facilities Show attendees how integrated technology can help them achieve a space that contributes positively towards their business goals”.
Our replica smart workplace will include the option for personalised tours of the space, with experts posted at each point of the build to guide you through our systems and the benefits they represent. We have designed routes for a breadth of interests and expertise to ensure that your experience in our build is optimised for you, and we’re excited to get the show started.
Here’s a bit more from Mike on what kind of experience visitors to the Expo can expect: “For a building to be considered ‘Smart’, it should use technology to deliver useful, consistent, user-focused experiences as well as space and energy efficiencies.” Here lies the distinction between what has often been used as a blanket term for the superficial use of tech in the workplace (something we like to call ‘Connected Buildings’), and with the fully integrated systems that make a building truly smart.
This isn’t the first time we’ve worked with Facilities Show organisers Informa (formerly UBM); we also acted as Master Systems Integrators for the 2015 development of their London HQ at 240 Blackfriars, where we helped deliver an immersive, inspiring and flexible smart workplace. The results of this partnership led to a Platinum LEED rating, £1m in annual productivity savings and 50% energy savings for the office. This initial piece of work is now being further developed, and we can now produce even more impressive results.
We’ve really enjoyed working with the various suppliers taking part in the Smart Buildings Expo and designing a fully integrated experience that demonstrates just what a Master Systems Integrator can do, and we’re very much looking forward to helping show visitors understand how we can make their lives easier.
